Broodmares

SORT AFTER (bred in 2012 by Wanted-Patronyme) enters the Burnewang North breeding group after a very tidy racing career in which she registered four wins in the 1300m-1700m distance range and was a top-four finisher in four black-type events. Trained in Sydney, Sort After made three sorties interstate, the first to Melbourne where she won at Flemington on Derby Day then followed up with a half-length second in the G2 Matriarch Stakes on Oaks Day. Sent to Adelaide for its autumn carnival, Sort After came away with a close second in the Centaurea Stakes and fourth, beaten under two lengths, in the G2 Queen Of The South Stakes. Her final black-type placing was another close fourth in the Mona Lisa Stakes shortly before her assignation with champion Pierro to whom she is now in foal. Sort After is a grand-daughter of Fastnet Rock through his G1 winning son Wanted and is the second foal of Patronyme, by More Than Ready.  Patronyme had a lot of speed and won six of 16 starts, all in Sydney, highlighted by victory in the G3 Birthday Card Stakes at Rosehill in which she beat the G1-winning millionaires Beaded and Melito. Another important success was the Triscay Stakes with such notables as Dane Julia (SAf) and Hurtle Myrtle in her wake. Patronyme is a half-sister to stakeswinner Angels Beach. The family was introduced to Australia via the Vaguely Noble mare Literary Prize (USA) who was a half-sister to the champion European filly Flying Water.

SUNDAY TOO FAR (bred in 2009 by Bernardini (USA)-Quiet Life (USA)) is a year-younger half-sister to the top class racemare Better Life (q.v.). Sunday Too Far won three races up to 1600m around Sydney and in her first two seasons at stud produced foals by Fastnet Rock and Pride Of Dubai. Family notes appear under Better Life. Her sire, the Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini (USA), has made a particularly promising start as a broodmare sire for such a young horse, his daughters being responsible for 20 stakeswinners already including the turf G1 winners Catholic Boy and Mo Town in the USA and the rising star in Singapore Elite Invincible. Sunday Too Far will produce her first foal for Burnewang North in 2018, one of the first crop of Sooboog, the Group-winning brother to Snitzerland.

SWINGING BABE (bred in 2000 by Encosta de Lago-Slashing Sort) was a tough and honest racemare who tallied seven wins and $255,450, winning from 1100m to 2150m.　 In her early days she competed well against the best 2YO fillies in Melbourne and Sydney then retained her zest for racing for a further four seasons. Her half-brother Larson was equally durable, winning 10 races and $254,465, while their dam’s half-brother Carnelian was a multiple stakeswinner of 10 races and $366,000.　 Rebel Bride, out of Swinging Babe’s sister, is a multiple Group winner of 14 races and $560,950. Swinging Babe holds the venerable distinction of being one of Burnewang North's foundation mares and has produced five winners, highlighted by her Choisir colt Resistant, a Melbourne stakes performer with earnings of $420,720.

THEKATCAMEHOME (USA) (bred in 2003 by Sea Of Secrets-Colville Deb). Thekatcamehome (USA) combines running ability, rock-hard soundness and good physique in one tidy package. Raced exclusively at the USA mid-west track of Prairie Meadows, Thekatcamehome finished in the first four in 26 of her 32 starts, winning eight – three as a two-year-old – and US$310,029, at distances from 900m to 1700m. She won the Debutante Stakes and was a black-type fixture every season with 14 placings.　 Thekatcamehome is by a son of Storm Cat, Sea Of Secrets, whose progeny earnings exceed $23 million. He is best known as the damsire of My Miss Aurelia, USA’s champion two-year-old filly of 2011, a triple G1 winner of $2.4 million.

VALOUR (bred in 2007 by Exceed And Excel-Valadon) recorded four wins (including Sydney metropolitan) and three placings in just 12 starts and is a sister or three-quarter sister to four stakes fillies, Noire, Valoura, Maraatib and Global Dream.　 All are daughters of the 2YO winning Valadon, a daughter of multiple stakeswinner Valourina. Valourina produced five black-type performers, notably multiple Group winner Media, placed at G1 level five times including the Galaxy and Golden Slipper; G2 winner and G1 placed Timbourina, and Cardinal Virtue, also a G1 performer. Valour’s third dam Bravery won the G1 Queensland Derby-G1 Queensland Oaks double. Valour is bred on the extension of the Danehill-Woodman cross which produced champion Miss Finland and is a daughter of Australian G1 sprinter Exceed And Excel is staking a claim as a worthwhile broodmare sire with 25 stakeswinners to date including G1 winners Alizee, Astern, Prompt Response and Bounding.  Valour's first two foals to race are multiple winners.

VINTAGE ROCK (bred in 2003 by Thunder Gulch (USA)-Rock Review) was a veteran of 31 starts winning six races from 1080m to 1800m and placing a further 15 times down to fourth, earning $172,990, including third twice in the (Listed) Canberra Cup. She descends from the brilliant filly Indian Summer and is one of six winners from the precocious Rock Review, winner of the G3 Sweet Embrace Stakes and dam also of Let’s Rock Again, winner of the G2 Reisling Slipper Trial at two and a black-type producer. Vintage Rock’s first three foals to race have all won, the first being Ayers Rock, winner of the Listed UCI Stakes at Flemington and beaten a nose in the Morphettville Guineas.  Her second foal, Good Days, is a capable Hong Kong galloper. Her Kentucky Derby-winning sire Thunder Gulch (USA) sired 84 stakeswinners (14 in G1) while his daughters have so far tallied 99 stakeswinners (7 G1 winners) including the brilliant Bayern.
